Acoustic Tiles Installation Guide

Acoustic Tiles Installation Guide

Tile FCR: The ceiling system with tiles is composed of supports that hang from the ceiling by means of wires, on which the tiles will be placed. It was developed to provide a practical solution with optimal acoustic performance with quick and easy installation, modular design, excellent stability and cost-effective installation.

SYSTEM ELEMENTS

  • Acoustic Tiles: It is a finishing product for ceilings designed in 2'x2' (0.61mx 0.61m) presentations.
  • Metal Suspensions: Metal suspensions are lightweight 15/16” (24 mm) or 9/16” (15 mm) profiles, made of electro galvanized steel with a white or black finish. According to the Project.
  • Fixing and Suspension Elements:
  • To fix the perimeter metal suspensions to the walls, use 3/4” shooting nails. To hang the main profiles, a suspension element made of #16 galvanized wire is used, preferably.
  • To fix the wire to the slab, use 1” clip-type nails.

Installation of False Tile Ceiling

Verification and Controls before starting the Game

The site where the installation will be carried out must be a clean and dry place, free of dust; The electrical, sanitary, climate installations, among others, must be completed and suspended in the ceiling and in the final site independent of the support structure of the tiles.

  • Final finishes such as paints, varnishes and solvents must be dry and the site free of moisture.
  • A minimum space of 20 cm from the low ceiling of the slab, duct or structure should be considered to mark the final ceiling level.
  • The outline is made with a pencil and it is checked that it remains horizontal, taking as a reference the base level marked by the construction company.
  • Structures such as locks or beams, or the floor level cannot be taken as a reference since they may be unlevel.

Step 1 Installation of the Perimeter Angle

  • Verify the measurements of the rooms and the modulation of the ceiling.
  • Define the desired height between the slab and the ceiling. It is recommended that the height be not less than 20cm .
  • Draw a pencil on the walls and around the perimeter.
  • Use a laser level and place the upper wing of the perimeter angle to the line marked on the wall.
  • Fix the perimeter profiles to the wall with ¾” nails every 30m maximum.
  • To resolve the exterior corners, the ends of the angles that make it up are cut at 45° so that when installed they fit well and do not assemble.

Step 2 Installation of Fixings and Suspension Wires

  • Mark the position of the main profiles on the slab every 1.22m .
  • Fix the clips in the previously marked position using ¾” fixing nails, the distance can be from 0.90m to a maximum of 1.20m, depending on the weight of the tile to be placed.
  • Tighten the suspension wires with a fixing drill, this wire must be No. 16 .
  • Cut the tensioned wires (like rods) to the size of the space between the slab and the ceiling, considering 15m below the level of the tile structure.

Step 3 Profile Installation

  • Install the main profiles every 22 m with their corresponding anchoring to the ceiling using wire No. 16 stretched with a 3-turn knot and placed vertically.
  • Install secondary profiles every 0.61 m between the main profiles.
  • To install 61m x 0.61m tiles, install the 0.61m tertiary profiles between the 1.22m secondary profiles obtaining spaces of 0.61mx 0.61m.
  • In each row of main tees, the adjustments that are necessary must be cut to align the slots of the pieces with the indicated thread, and thus ensure the correct alignment of the connectors.
  • The main tees are assembled by placing the cut ends on the perimeter angles.
  • The hooks formed with the pendants are inserted into the perforations of the tee that are round; After verifying the line of the thread so that the pieces are level, the wires are bent up and around in a turn since the tie is not definitive. If the perforation of the closest pendant is not under a pendant, the convenience perforations will be used, which are the perforations located in the highest part of the bulb of the “T”.
  • Finally, the Connecting Tees are placed by inserting the clips at their ends into the corresponding slots.

Step 4 Tile Installation

Before placing the acoustic ceiling pieces, the horizontal level of the suspension in the frame is verified, adjusting the hangers or tees where necessary. Once adjusted and leveled, the final knots are made by giving three and a half turns to the ends of the wires, in a space no larger than 1''.

  • The pieces are removed from the box one by one to prevent the surfaces from rubbing and this could cause a difference in texture or tones.
  • To correctly place the tiles, we must lift them at an angle between the profiles, taking care not to damage the edges.
  • Once the tile has been introduced, arrange it so that it rests without difficulty between the metal profiles.
