Asphalt Layer Installation Guide

Asphalt Layer Installation Guide

The asphalt layer is a material used when waterproofing different types of surfaces or areas, taking into account that the asphalt layer is one of the materials most used by builders for waterproofing, which is why it is necessary to know the material well, the application, flexibility, ease of installation and good adhesion.

  • Before installing the material, the surface on which you will work must be well cleaned.
  • The membrane should always be applied so that the overlap runs with the slope.
  • Always apply pressure to the blanket while it is being heated and put into place, this ensures adhesion and the elimination of air pockets.
  • The heater must be sufficient to consume the protective polyethylene film and produce the fusion of asphalt.
  • Any final overlap must reach a minimum of 8-10cm.
  • Whenever you cut a piece, test the fit to the ceiling before applying it.
  • Store the rolls vertically, thus avoiding damaging the edges of the roll.
  • Plan the application of the coats before applying them. Develop 1 or 2 meters to ensure roll alignment. If it deviates by more than 1⁄2”, cut the roll and realign.

What should we take into account when carrying out maintenance?

- The quality of the asphalt layer is a key factor since it is decisive for the durability of the waterproofing. The better the quality of the mantles, the less problems they will cause once installed, which is why at TecnoDrywall we offer the best products manufactured with Italian technology.

- To prevent reinstallation of the asphalt membrane, it is best to check the waterproofed surface from time to time in search of imperfections.

- Puddles and perforations must be avoided. If these are detected, it will be best to restore the asphalt membrane immediately.

- Maintenance is more demanding depending on the use of the covered area, the maintenance of a waterproofed roof is not the same as that of tiles, because there is greater traffic, inspections must increase at least twice a year.

- Do not damage the asphalt layer with heavy objects, to avoid wear of the asphalt membrane, it is advisable to avoid dragging objects on the waterproofed surfaces. Furthermore, this action could cause the loss of the mineral.
